				FREE Webposition Gold software - Widely recognised as the market leader in submission tools and I would recommend it as your first piece of software as it's easy to use. It has an excellent 'walk-through' user interface and the knowledge base is constantly updated. The web position reports are a little confusing at first, but this is probably because they are so comprehensive. I started out using this and keep it as a useful tool to monitor the rankings of my sites on the main search engines. Has a genuine free 30 day trial albeit with a limited number of search engines. Support is friendly, quick and 'patient' by real people! Only downside I can think of is that the search engines that are used to submit to and report on aren't customisable, but I don't really care as the big ones are the only ones worth concentrating on anyway. 				Commando Pro - powerful automated search engine submission software Perhaps the next step up from Web Position Gold and the real professional's tool. Definitely not a quick fix. Needs time setting up the features. A bit like Ikea furniture, really. Once it's done though, you'll never look back. Best features are the ability to use a 'pool' of proxy servers to submit through, in an attempt to avoid getting banned for large and multiple repeat submissions, and the ability to add any search engines to the programme. ie. I've added as many UK based search engines to the database as I can, for submission of web pages for British companies only selling in the UK. Comes with a lot of default Global search engines but unfortunately about half of them didn't work. (Do I really want to submit pages to Lycos in Peru, anyway??? )This was because most of them had either moved their submission pages or put a 'dummy' page in to block auto submissions, and unfortunately Freezing Cold Software, who make the product don't seem to provide a regular update service. Apart from this, once you have this piece of kit, you'll feel like a real pro. (ps. If you buy this and want to save a lot of time finding out which search engines are out of date, I'll gladly email you my list of ones that didn't work, so you can remove them and get on with submissions to ones that do work) Marks out of 10......................................................................9

				Word Tracker the ultimate tool to get the right key words in your meta tags - "Target the wrong keywords and all your efforts will be in vain." Brent Winters, President FirstPlace Software I would not be without this. I've spent hours researching keywords and have come up with some I would never have thought of, thanks to Word Tracker. It's amazing what people type in to find things on the web.! You'll never be 100% confident you've found the right keywords unless you use something like this. I probably utilise about 1/3 of the features and find this to be plenty. Particularly useful if you do a lot of bid per click submissions and you can compare bids on keywords on OVERTURE, Bay9, Kanoodle, Sprinks, Findwhat etc. as well as discover loopholes and missed opportunities in the biguns like Yahoo. I can't really think of any downsides to this software exceot that I don't like the logo (looks like a highway/motorway construction firm) and their brand image could do with an overhaul. You only get a limited amount of time to use it, but you can 'rent' as you need it and I think the amount of cash you may generate would offset the cost to use it for one year. 				The insiders guide to dominating the search engine wars John Buchanan (the author) and his team, must have spent hours and hours putting this book together. Either that or they just copied the Planet Ocean book ! (Is that libel??) I suppose the techniques are all the same and there's always going to be an element of repetition. Either way, you definitely need to read this one or the Planet Ocean book if you want to be a successful promoter. You really get the feel he's genuinely practised what he preaches and it's enthusiastically written, with clear examples and in straight forward jargon-free english. If I understood it, anyone will!. Scroll down past the reams of unnecessary sales hype on the first page of his website to get to the order button. It really is a good product and is maintained and updated monthly. In the early days I asked John to review a couple of sites to analyse how they got so high, and he (or his member of staff, of course) came back quickly with full answers both times. Very impressive.
